Blue Rock Lake

Blue Rock Lake is located in Willow Grove, 17kms north of Moe. It is managed by the local Tanjil Valley Landcare Group who have over the years planted and improved the walking track along the western side of the Lake.

The walking track gives visitors a chance to explore and take in the beauty of the lake. Whilst enjoying a stroll you can see just how much effort has been instilled into the walking track. Tanjil Valley Landcare holds regular working bees for the upkeep and continued management of the track, always looking to improve the visitor’s experience. The lake is well known for its recreational potential for fishing, kayaking, boating, and swimming on those hot summer days.

In 2015 the Tanjil Valley Landcare Group built a 1.4km walking track along the shoreline of Blue Rock Lake. It forms part of a 3.8km walking track that links the town of Willow Grove to the main picnic reserve at the Lake. The local school and the Willow Grove community participate in the planting of indigenous plants along the track as part of National Tree Day activities. Regular working bees are well supported by Landcare members and the general public.

Since its construction over 10,000 plants have been planted and 100 cubic metres of mulch laid down. The track is very popular with locals and visitors alike.

A big rainfall event in June 2021 saw a third of the track go underwater as the Lake rose 1.5 metres above its high watermark, this was due to a major flood of the Tanjil River. In April 2022 an adjoining track on Blue Rock Road was resurfaced by the Landcare group with funding received from Energy Australia. This track features a healthy section of native bush and leads out to a very scenic section of the lake. Maintaining the track is a major focus of our group, it's a real asset for the community and carries important environmental messages for its users.

Tanjil Valley Landcare welcome any new comers, more information and contacts can be found on their group page.
