Mountain Rivers Landcare Group

Mountain Rivers Landcare is a small group located in the hills of Erica, 38kms north of Traralgon. It includes some of the regions most scenic damp, shrubby foothill and wet forests. The Thomson River flows through the Eastern part of their region and the Tyres River flows to the West, creating a highly biodiverse environment.

The region supports a high level of tourism based activities including mountain bike riding, fishing, kayaking, 4WD and camping opportunities. There is a long history of logging and gold mining in the region, which has altered some of the landscape over time.

Mountain Rivers Landcare focuses on enhancing biodiversity for threatened species, habitat regeneration, control and mitigation of soil erosion/sedimentation into streams. Fighting the incursion of weeds and pests (blackberry, ragwort, deer, rabbits, thistles etc) is a keen focus for the group. Carbon farming systems and off stream stock watering points are emerging areas of interest.
