Gippsland Plains Rail Trail

Gippsland Plains Rail Trail, offers visitors access to the natural beauty, local history, and small-town hospitality of the Central Gippsland region. The trail’s gentle grade provides a perfect low-intensity walking or riding experience for visitors of all ages and levels of trail-going experience, and is easily accessible by train from Melbourne or Bairnsdale. There’s history, vibrant wineries, contemporary restaurants and cafes, exciting specialty shops, stunning views of the Great Dividing Range, and much more to discover on your Gippsland Plains Rail Trail adventure.

The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail Committee of Management was first appointed in 1999. The Committee of Management have worked assiduously to complete the Trail which, when completed will be a significant community asset and provide a wide range of benefits socially, environmentally (retention of remnant vegetation) and economically as a tourist destination and an essential component of the local, regional, state and national transport networks.
