Bug Blitz

This event saw the Bug Blitz team (John and Erin) hold an engaging event to reconnect local school children with nature, as they lead an exploration of the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve. It was a great chance for the entire family to get ‘hands on’ with nature and discover the local biodiversity. Parents and children came along on the day, with 28 children taking part in the sessions. Bug Blitz is a not-for-profit initiative, integrating scientific, educational and creative opportunities to stimulate an active interest in biodiversity.
“The average age was around six or seven years old. We’ve had some great feedback from the parents as well. I think a lot of them enjoyed it as much as the kids.”

Lavalla Catholic College get their bug blitz fix!
On the 16th of June, Year 11 students from Lavalla Catholic College swapped the classroom for some hands on learning at the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve. It was a great opportunity for local school students to develop an understanding of the diverse world of bugs and build an appreciation for small critters. Many creepy crawlies were found including spiders, stick insects, water bugs and many more. Big shout out to Marnie our Network Coordinator for organising the event and to John and Mitch from Bug Blitz Trust. This workshop was made possible with funding from Latrobe Valley Authority.
