West Gippsland Seedbank
Providing local-provenance seed for West Gippsland revegetation.
West Gippsland Seedbank is a not-for-profit organisation established to collect and supply local-provenance indigenous seed, and advocate for its use in revegetation projects. Operating out of the Baw Baw Shire Depot in Warragul, we collect indigenous seed within a 30km radius of Warragul. The seed is dried, cleaned and stored before being sent to our colleagues at South Gippsland Seedbank. From there it is available for purchase by landowners, nurseries and organisations for use in private and public revegetation projects.
The Seedbank is run entirely by friendly volunteers who value the opportunity to meet, learn and socialise with like-minded individuals. We began in 2007 encouraged by Landcare groups who recognised the benefits of planting seeds sourced locally. Since that time, we have developed our knowledge of the local indigenous plants that are most suited to revegetation projects. We collect from more than 60 different species, ranging from eucalypts to grasses. To join us, no prior knowledge is necessary, just a desire to learn about our local plant species and see them used in plantings around the area.
