Yinnar-Yinnar South Landcare Group
Formed in 2007, Yinnar-Yinnar South Landcare Group works on public and private land to achieve habitat protection, revegetation, weed control, water quality, and increased community knowledge and awareness of the environment and its sustainability. We welcome new members and we aim to be a well run, active, child safe and enjoyable organisation. Our projects all aim to improve our local environment. We look for opportunities to work within broader scale environmental management plans.
Currently, we have member households and projects extending from Hazelwood North through Jeeralang and Churchill to Jumbuk, Yinnar South, Yinnar and Darlimurla. We are a member group of Landcare Victoria Inc. and the Latrobe Catchment Landcare Network.
We usually hold meetings every second month, sometimes combined with events such as our annual ‘Slaughter of Sycamore Maples’ or washing of used planting tubes.
Current activities for 2023-2024 include:
seed collection (November-March) for revegetation
attending the Yinnar market twice yearly
growing tubestock for planting
discussions with Latrobe City Council to plant the Yinnar road verge
weed control and tree guard removal at Middle Creek
control of invasive maples in Budgeree Bush Reserve (autumn)
revegetation planting above Billy’s Creek (winter)
plant surveys and planting for local landholders (when requested)
